Fashioned constantly & considerably with the handle “King of Punk Art”, Gary Panter’s work is a topographically broken, lucidly primitive stranglehold on the plumbing of pop culture : no image, motif or atmosphere is out of bounds for the plunging, plundering or painting.
Well past his “arrival” on the LA punk scene of the 70’s, Panter has seamlessly been able to weave his rough hewn artwork deep into the underground (unearth early copies of Slash!), up through nerd comic book culture (read Jimbo!), into the dense fat of the “Art World” (look at the painting to the left!) & well around the mainstream (sub)conscious (watch Pee Wee’s Playhouse!) : all with his aesthetic stamp intact. A feat that is mostly unheard of, proportionally impossible and consistently influential/encouraging to gaggles of artists & designers everywhere.
