JAY RYAN
It's Not Us, Illustration

This week’s It’s Not Us guest is simply one of America’s most prolific and distinct poster artists. Ladies and gentlemen: Jay Ryan.

‘I’ve been making screenprinted posters in Chicago since 1995, for my own band, my friends’ bands, and the clubs we played at, before opening my own print shop in 1999, The Bird Machine. Since then, I’ve been working for mostly “independent” bands or their ilk, such as Shellac, Andrew Bird, The Melvins, The Decemberists, Fugazi and Low.

My work is all hand-drawn, and the separations for the different screens are cut by hand – no computers used in the design process. Right now i’m working on some lines of shirts for Patagonia, some prints for a BBC nature ‘programme’, and posters for various bicycle-oriented fundraising events.’
